It's always a sad day around these parts when a car company decides to wind down its motorsport involvement.

And that is what will be happening at the end of the month with Mitsubishi's Ralliart division. While there haven't been any factory-supported Mitsu efforts in WRC or Dakar for years, they did have many notable results on those stages, including the 1998 Manufacturers' Championship in the WRC, four individual Drivers' Championship titles for Tommi Makinen in 1996–99, and a record twelve wins in the Dakar Rally since 1982. Some of the most entertaining WRC drivers drove for Mitsu at one time or another, from the legendary Makinen to the late Richard Burns to the crazy Gigi Galli.

Ralliart was responsible for supporting privateers in their rallying programs worldwide, and that will cease as a result of shutting their doors, as will new planning, development and merchandise of new Ralliart-branded aftermarket parts.

Without Ralliart, we wouldn't have so many great memories, like this of Tommi Makinen blasting through a stage at Rallye Sanremo 2000:

R.I.P. Ralliart!
